Reuland's multi-speed motors are usually designed for constant torque applications and are used primarily in the crane and hoist industry.

They are generally offered in totally enclosed non-ventilated enclosures and are designed for 15, 30, and 60-minute duty. Unlike 2- speed continuous duty motors, multi-speed intermittent duty motors can be ordered as 3, or 4-speed designs in dual winding configurations. Intermittent duty multi-speed motors are generally Nema Design D (5-8)% slip.
